Part of the small team that runs the Keep, the organisation that has been struggling to keep the tradition of Keepers alive for centuries despite no sign of the Gods' return, Barbara Chandler now knows that the time has come and it's up to her to take charge and prepare the Gods for the coming battle.

A close relationship with Ben and absolute trust in her Keepers is tempered by an ability to appreciate what the Gods are going through - displaced from their normal lives and having to readjust to great powers and responsibilities - means that Barbara is the most sympathetic towards our heroes' troubles.
