EXT. INDY'S NEIGHBORHOOD - FRONT YARD
The lawn of a house near Indy's. The entire neighborhood is
now bathed in flashing lights and screaming kids and cops.
Peter tip-toes into frame, trying his best to avoid
detection. For the moment, nobody's around.
COP (O.S.)
Hey! Stop!
It doesn't stay that way. Peter soon finds himself being
chased by TWO COPS with flashlights.
PETER
Wonderful!
Peter takes off running around a nearby house.
COP
Stop running, son! You're in enough
trouble already!
EXT. RANDOM BACK YARD - CONTINUOUS
Peter jumps over various obstacles, mostly small children's
toys and bikes. He ends up stepping into a kiddy pool.
Behind him, the Cops are beginning to slow down. They don't
the stamina to match Peter's speed.
The gap between them grows and Pete turns around to take make
sure he is in the clear.
BAM! Peter trips on a tricycle, launching slightly into the
air and then hitting the ground hard.
He struggles to get up as the flashlights shining at him get
brighter. He takes one look back, and sees the cops are
getting closer.
COP (O.S.)
Give it up, kid!
Peter's eyes bulge and he scrambles to his feet. He runs
toward a nearby tree.
ANGLE ON THE COPS as they spin around, shining their lights
in all directions, but Peter is nowhere to be found.
After a moment, they move out of frame.
PAN UP to the tree, and through several layers of branches,
and we find Peter, perched near the top.
He breaths a sigh of relief as we:
EXT. QUEENS - PARK
A park you'd normally expect to see filled with young
children playing, but that's not the case right now.
Gwen sits hunched-over on the edge of the sandbox, not
looking too well. Eddie is beside her, along with Mary Jane.
Otherwise, the park is empty and dark, only lit by two large
street lamps in the distance.
Mary Jane is clearly still worried.
MARY JANE
You think he went home?
EDDIE
I doubt it. He knows Gwen's cell
number. He'd have called us by now.
Mary Jane is expressionless and Eddie notices.
EDDIE
This is Peter we're talking about.
He always shows up sooner or later.
MARY JANE
Yeah, I guess you're right. It's
just... we were finally making
progress.
EDDIE
Progress, eh?
MARY JANE
You know what I mean.
(beat)
There's no telling what happened
back there. He could be anywhere...
Gwen slowly stands and staggers over to them. She's not as
bad as before, but still isn't fully recovered either.
GWEN
Or right there...
They turn to where Gwen is pointing, to find Peter waving his
hands and running forward, frantically.
MARY JANE
Peter! We've been worried sick!
Peter stops, catching his breath.
EDDIE
What happened back there? You were
right behind us.
PETER
I fell. The cops decided to chase
me... long story.
EDDIE
Let me guess, you pulled one of
your famous disappearing acts,
right?
PETER
(grins)
Something like that.
(beat)
So what are you guys doing?
MARY JANE
Waiting for you...
Mary Jane grasps Peter's arm. He is a bit taken back by her
forwardness, but she is simply seizing the opportunity.
GWEN
Come push me, Eddie.
EDDIE
What?
GWEN
(re: Peter & MJ)
The swing, Eddie.
EDDIE
Oh, right.
Although it's obvious what Eddie and Gwen are doing, both
Peter and Mary Jane try to play it casual.
MARY JANE
You want to try the monkey bars?
PETER
I'm more of a slide kind of guy.
Still clinging to him, Mary Jane nudges him sideways as they
make their way to two tall slides and out of frame.
MARY JANE (O.S.)
You are such a dork.
PETER (O.S.)
This I know.
We PAN OVER to the swing as Gwen gets on one, still feeling
the effects of the party, but not nearly as bad as before.
Eddie stands behind her, clearly with something on his mind.
GWEN
Some party, huh?
EDDIE
I never knew you were such a heavy
drinker.
GWEN
We've never gone to any parties
together before. It's kinda what
happens at them, you know.
(beat, grins)
Besides, it was fun.
Eddie doesn't look amused.
EDDIE
Fun? You got wasted back there! You
made a fool of yourself.
Gwen reacts at his harsh tone, instantly becoming hostile.
GWEN
Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize you
were my damn chaperone.
EDDIE
That's not what this is about, you
know that! I just thought you
should know how you made yourself
look back there.
Eddie has hit a chord. Gwen gets up in his face.
GWEN
Well, I'm sorry if I embarrassed
you!
EDDIE
This isn't about me, Gwen. You...
GWEN
I'm fine!
EDDIE
Maybe now, but what if the cops
hadn't shown up? What then?
GWEN
Oh my God. You're going to be that
guy? What is it with you anyway?
Eddie reaches for Gwen's hand, but she jerks it away. Eddie
reacts with a mixture of shock and anger.
EDDIE
Hey, I'm just trying to help! I've
seen this kinda thing before with
my dad, it starts off like...
GWEN
(interrupting; fired up)
You're Dad? You're comparing me to
your dad because of one party?!
By now, Peter and Mary Jane have taken notice of the argument
and are approaching, looking concerned.
EDDIE
Gwen, calm down.
GWEN
No, you know what you're problem
is? This front you put up, this
carefree vibe, it's a lie! You
always find a way to make
everything about you. About your
problems. Well guess what? I don't
need your advice. I never have.
(beat)
Not everyone has problems like your
family's. Just because your dad is
a drunk doesn't mean I am!
Eddie stands, stunned at what was just said. He looks to the
side and realizes Peter and Mary Jane heard the entire thing.
Gwen immediately regrets what she said.
GWEN
Eddie, I'm...
EDDIE
(barely controlled anger)
Don't.
"Shadow Of The Day" by Linkin Park begins to play as Eddie
walks away without another word. A moment later, Gwen walks
away in the opposite direction, her head hung low.
MONTAGE
1) Gwen walking, alone and distraught, along an empty street.
2) Eddie, angry and defeated.
3) Gwen passes by the movie theatre from earlier.
4) Eddie entering his apartment. His dad is sprawled on the
couch passed-out, a beer bottle still in his hand.
5) Gwen walks up the front steps of her house, perhaps wiping
away a tear or two. She doesn't even notice a strange car
parked in the driveway as she enters the house.
The music comes to an abrupt stop as we:
CUT TO:
INT. GWEN'S HOUSE - KITCHEN
JOHN and BRIDGET MARSHALL are seated at their kitchen table,
a look of uncertainty about them. Across from them, an
unknown woman sits. Gwen enters and immediately freezes.
She stares in shock at the woman.
GWEN
Mom...
Off her stunned expression:
FADE TO:
EXT. QUEENS - SIDEWALK
A very snug looking Mary Jane and Peter walk together, on the
way home, both sit staring up at the starry night.
MARY JANE
You think they'll be ok?
PETER
I don't know. I think they just
need to cool off for a while.
MARY JANE
I can't believe she said that. I
mean, did you know about...
PETER
He never told me.
MASON (PRE-LAP)
Bingo!
CUT TO:
INT. THE VAN
Back with the Chess Club, Bonner in the driver's seat,
Schultz beside him, and Mason and Luthor in the back.
Displayed on one of the monitors in the back are Peter and
Mary Jane as they continue talking, and the surrounding area.
MASON
We've got company!
SCHULTZ
How far?
MASON
Just ahead of us. They sure as hell
don't seem to be in any hurry.
SCHULTZ
(to Bonner)
Stay out of sight.
Bonner nods, slowing the van down.
BACK TO:
EXT. QUEENS - SIDEWALK
Back with Peter and Mary Jane. A pair of HEADLIGHTS linger in
the background, slowly following them.
MARY JANE
You know, aside from you being
late, running from the cops, losing
you, and the epic fight with Gwen
and Eddie, I'd say this night
turned out pretty well.
Peter gives her a wry smile.
PETER
You've got a funny idea of well.
Mary Jane looks over at him with a grin.
MARY JANE
You finally pulled through, tiger.
Peter smiles pridefully.
PETER
I did, didn't I?
She nudges him in the side.
MARY JANE
Don't get cocky.
Mary Jane turns to look at Peter, biting her lip slightly.
PETER
What?
She shakes her head with a grin.
MARY JANE
What am I going to do with you?
PETER
Come on now, I'm not that
clueless...
Their eyes meet, and they pull closer to each other, the
culmination of a long night...
SCREECH! A BLACK SUV skids to a halt right beside them!
SEQUENCE
The images FLASH in quick succession:
1) Mary Jane walking nearby the ice cream truck, a BLACK SUV
passes by slowly, then out of frame.
2) Peter running across the street, the SUV nearly hits him.
3) Peter and Mary Jane mere moments ago, the headlights
trailing them now clearly visible as the black SUV's.
END SEQUENCE as we:
FLASH TO:
INT. THE VAN
The Chess Club watch on from their van, shocked.
BONNER
What the hell are they doin'?!
SCHULTZ
Get us outta here.
(beat)
Now!
Bonner rushes to the wheel.
EXT. QUEENS - SIDEWALK
TWO LARGE THUGS step out of the SUV, grabbing Mary Jane!
Peter quickly intervenes, DECKING one of them with a punch.
He moves toward the other one, who pulls out a gun, pressing
it to Mary Jane's head.
THUG
Don't try to be the hero, kid.
Trust me, it ain't worth it.
Mary Jane is silent, but is clearly FREAKING out.
Peter watches on, knowing that if he makes a move, she's
dead. Suddenly, his SENSE kicks in.
He spins around, only to be met with a CROWBAR to the face.
MARY JANE
Peter!!!
The thugs throw Mary Jane into the SUV and climb in as Peter
slowly regains his bearings. We catch one final glimpse of
Mary Jane before the door SLAMS shut and the SUV peels out.
PETER
Mary Jane!!!
Peter takes off running...
EXT. QUEENS - STREET - MOMENTS LATER
The SUV swerves around the corner, speeding away from us down
the street. Right behind it, Peter gives chase, LEAPING from
rooftop to rooftop, out of costume, but not caring.
PETER
Hold on, Mary Jane...
Peter continues his chase as the SUV drives carelessly
through the streets of Queens, the erratic driving making it
impossible to keep up with.
It turns another corner and Peter stops, having run out of
buildings to leap from. He looks around, spotting a
clothesline running from one building to the next.
He LEAPS into the air, grabbing the line mid-way across the
street, using it for momentum as he FLIPS back into the air,
finally landing on the apartment building across the street.
He looks around, searching for the SUV. It's gone.
ANGLE FROM ABOVE
The SUV is nowhere to be found. Peter stands on the roof,
frantically searching, but in vain.
PETER
Mary Jane...
Off this ominous sight:
INT. UNKNOWN LOCATION
Back where we started the episode, in what we now realize is
an empty WAREHOUSE. The Chess Club's van is parked nearby.
Schultz stands close by, a phone pressed to his ear. The same
familiar voice from the teaser speaks:
VOICE
(filtered; through phone)
Give me good news.
SCHULTZ
We lost our lead.
An ominous beat.
VOICE
We had an agreement.
SCHULTZ
We still do. We'll take care of
this, you have my word.
VOICE
We need to meet in person. Discuss
how best to proceed.
SCHULTZ
Your place or mine?
A beat before we:
CUT TO:
INT. OSCORP - NORMAN'S OFFICE
The identity of the voice is now revealed. NORMAN OSBORN
stands, gazing out his office window, a stern look on his
face as he responds to Schultz.
NORMAN
Mine. This has gone on long enough.
The man has cost me everything. I
want Wilson Fisk eliminated, no
matter the cost.
Off Norman's deadly serious expression:
FADE TO:
EXT. PARKING GARAGE
A familiar parking garage, where we find a long BLACK LIMO
parked alongside the infamous black SUV.
The two thugs emerge from the SUV, Mary Jane in tow. She's
been blindfolded, and bound by her hands and feet.
MARY JANE
(near hysteria)
Who are you people?!
The thugs drag her over to the back of the limo, where the
trunk has been opened. The blindfold is ripped away.
A man walks into frame, his height a menacing feature as he
slowly approaches Mary Jane. It's SOLOMON!
MARY JANE
(defiant)
Who are you?
Solomon grins wickedly.
SOLOMON
Just a friend of your dad's.
Mary Jane expression shifts to fear. She is silent.
Solomon nods to the thugs, who place a kicking Mary Jane into
the trunk rather roughly.
Solomon approaches, glaring at her from above.
SOLOMON
Hope you're not afraid of the dark.
He slams the trunk shut, causing us to:
FADE TO BLACK.
END OF SHOW
