EXT. QUEENS - MOVIE THEATER - DUSK
A bustling movie theater in the heart of Queens, with dozens,
if not hundreds, of people gathered around it and other
nearby stores and restaurants.
Standing amongst the crowd we find Mary Jane and Gwen waiting
patiently (or maybe not so patiently) for the guys to arrive.
Mary Jane studies a sign displaying the list of movies
playing. She doesn't look all that impressed.
MARY JANE
What ever happened to good movies
over the summer?
GWEN
Your idea to see a movie.
MARY JANE
Don't remind me.
GWEN
Me and Eddie were talking anyway.
Maybe we should do something else?
MARY JANE
Like what?
GWEN
I dunno, it's the last day of
school, there has to be something
better to do than see a movie.
(reads the sign)
Especially if this is the best they
can do.
MARY JANE
I'm up for whatever, just don't
drag me to Dante's. I had to
practically play dead to get out of
working tonight.
Gwen looks down the street, searching.
GWEN
Where the hell is Eddie?
MARY JANE
It's not Eddie I'm worried about.
Gwen gives her a supportive smile.
GWEN
I'm sure Peter will be here. After
last time, he knows better than to
screw this one up.
MARY JANE
(sighs)
What time is it again?
Gwen grabs her phone, looks at the blank screen and frowns.
GWEN
I wouldn't know. My damn phone just
died. Figures.
Gwen walks over toward a MAN standing back to her, looking
out toward the street. She taps him on the shoulder.
GWEN
Hey, do you know what time it is?
The man turns - it's Luthor!
LUTHOR
Beats me, sweetheart.
Gwen rolls her eyes.
GWEN
So helpful.
Gwen moves away, searching for someone else with a watch.
Luthor taps a small device on his shirt collar.
LUTHOR
We've got a visual.
Off Luthor's unreadable face:
INT. BROCK APARTMENT - EDDIE'S ROOM
Eddie walks around his room, a phone pinned between his ear
and shoulder.
EDDIE
Almost ready. I'll be there in a
few. Bye.
He hands up the phone and quickly exits.
INT. BROCK APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS
MORGAN BROCK is sitting in his recliner. His hand holding a
remote control; he is channel surfing.
Eddie walks by, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible.
MORGAN
Get me a beer.
Eddie stops, looking at his father, instantly aggravated.
MORGAN
What are you waiting for? Get me a
beer.
(beat)
You should start dinner, too.
EDDIE
Dinner? Where's mom?
MORGAN
Not here. Get my beer.
EDDIE
I'm not making dinner. I've got
plans.
Eddie begins walking towards the door.
MORGAN
Where do you think you're going?
EDDIE
(cold)
I told you. I have plans.
Eddie reaches for the door, swinging it open, but Morgan has
gotten up.
MORGAN
Hey, I'm talking to you!
As Morgan speeds to the door Eddie swings back and quickly
walks out, slamming the door behind him.
EXT. QUEENS - SIDEWALK - NIGHT
Gwen and Mary Jane are still outside the theatre. All around
them teenagers are making the most of their first night of
freedom. One COUPLE stands against a nearby wall, making out.
MARY JANE
Get a room?
Gwen smirks.
GWEN
They're just having fun.
MARY JANE
Talk about PDA...
GWEN
You're just jealous because your
guy's too clueless to make a move.
Mary Jane shakes her head.
MARY JANE
I don't know what's with him.
(beat)
I swear if he stands me up again...
GWEN
He won't. He's not that stupid.
EDDIE (O.S.)
(screaming)
Ladies! Sorry I'm late.
Both girls turn around, smiles on their faces.
GWEN
Hey you!
(beat, looks around)
Where's Peter?
EDDIE
He's not here yet? Man, and I
thought I was running late.
Mary Jane can't hide her frustration. They notice.
GWEN
Don't worry, he'll be here.
The moment becomes extremely awkward as the three stand
outside the box office, waiting for Peter. A car speeds past
them on the street, the top down and heavily packed with
students. Among them is Indy.
INDY
Hey!
The car comes to a sudden STOP, then quickly reverses. Indy
jumps out of the back seat, racing forward.
MARY JANE
Oh, great.
INDY
Hey, guys!
GWEN
Hey, Indy.
INDY
What are you doing?
MARY JANE
Right now? Waiting for Peter.
INDY
What about later?
(beat)
I'm pretty sure you heard that,
like, my party is fully on!
EDDIE
(imitating)
Like, fully?
INDY
You guys should totally come!
GWEN
I guess we could...
Gwen looks over at Eddie, who shrugs in agreement. Mary Jane
doesn't seem to care, still annoyed by Peter's tardiness.
GWEN
We'll stop by...
INDY
Awesome! I'll see you there!
Indy spins around, running back to the car. As soon as she
jumps in, it SPEEDS off, burning the tires to the pavement.
GWEN
What do you say, MJ?
Mary Jane looks down both ends of the street, hope in her
eyes. Peter is no where to be seen.
MARY JANE
(nearing anger)
Let's go.
Mary Jane takes the lead, as Gwen and Eddie hold hands,
following her as she walks. We linger for a moment as they
walk across the street, then:
PETER (O.S.)
Hey, wait up!
Peter comes running into frame, stopping to catch his breath.
They don't seem to have heard him.
PETER
Mary Jane!
Once more, Peter takes off running across the street, right
into the path of an oncoming SUV. Peter continues on.
PETER
Sorry!
Meanwhile, back outside the theatre, Luthor watches on.
SCHULTZ
(filtered; through radio)
Let's move, boys!
Luthor walks briskly out of frame as we:
FADE OUT.
END OF ACT TWO
ACT THREE
FADE IN:
INT. INDY'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM
The first party of the summer seems to be going strong. The
living room floor has been cleared of furniture, as a few
people dance wildly on it. Most of them are holding a red
plastic cup. Most importantly, there are no adults around.
"Earthquake" by Family Force 5 blares over the speakers.
The front door swings open, revealing Eddie.
EDDIE
The Ed-Machine has arrived!
Everyone is too transfixed in their own fun to notice. Gwen
enters behind him.
GWEN
Come on, Ed-Machine, party's this
way...
She pushes him in, as they both stumble forward, getting a
view of the insane party ahead of them. Mary Jane enters.
MARY JANE
Is that guy eating ketchup... from
the bottle?
Mary Jane points ahead, and everyone turns to look, but are
distracted as FLASH THOMPSON and KENNY MCFARLANE enter frame.
FLASH
Peter Parker?! At a party?!
(re: his cup)
May have a few more than I thought.
Peter enters behind them, looking exhausted.
PETER
(catching his breath)
Hey, Flash.
Mary Jane flashes him an annoyed glare, then walks away.
FLASH
I didn't know you guys were coming.
Kenny slaps hands with Eddie.
KENNY
The Brockster, himself! Watch out,
it's about to get crazy in here!
(then)
Wait until you see some of the
girls from Empire, dude...
Eddie tries to look unimpressed as Gwen watches on.
FLASH
Alright, bench-warmer, why don't
you go find one for yourself then?
(off Kenny's look)
Go find a girl as big as you, then
try kissing her. See how many times
it takes before you don't get
kicked in the balls.
KENNY
Dude, chicks love me!
FLASH
Betcha' twenty bucks you can't bag
one before you puke tonight.
They slap hands.
KENNY
You are so on, bro!
Flash shakes his head, turns back to Peter and the gang.
FLASH
You see what I put up with?
Flash glances over at Mary Jane, who is standing alone by the
back door, her attention fixed on Peter.
FLASH
(grins)
You lucky bastard.
As Flash and Kenny head off, Peter looks at Mary Jane,
smiling. She rolls her eyes and heads out the back door.
PETER
(low, to himself)
Did I mention I was late because I
caught a wanted criminal today?
Peter begins to walk forward, chasing after Mary Jane. He
doesn't get far, though, before BAM!
A GIRL walks right into him, spilling her drink on him.
GIRL
(slurred)
Sorry...
She takes a step back, then BARFS all over him. Peter sighs;
what else is going to happen? Off this, we:
CUT TO:
EXT. RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD - NIGHT
The Chess Club's van parked under a large TREE.
INT. THE VAN
Sitting in the back we find Mason and Luthor, a few beer cans
surrounding them, apparently playing cards.
Mason throws his down in frustration.
MASON
Son of a bitch!
Luthor laughs.
LUTHOR
You can't bluff me.
SCHULTZ
(filtered, through radio)
Would you two quit screwing around
and tell me if anyone's coming?!
Mason rolls his eyes, grabbing a handheld radio.
MASON
We're on it, bossman. Don't get
your trousers in a bunch.
EXT. RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD - SIDEWALK
Schultz, wearing workout gear, jogs down the sidewalk,
keeping a close eye on the neighborhood around him.
SCHULTZ
Where you at, Sherm?
EXT. INDY'S HOUSE - FRONT YARD - TREE
Above the van, Bonner is sitting one of the tree's massive
branches. He surveys the house and surrounding area with a
pair of teched-up binoculars.
BONNER
I've lost visual. If they were
here, they're not anymore.
(beat)
Remind me why the hell I'm stuck up
a tree spying on some teeny bopper?
SCHULTZ
If she's of interest to him, she's
of interest to us. Wherever she's
been, the target ain't been far
behind. He's obviously got some
kinda connection to her.
BONNER
Yeah, well I ain't seen nothing up
here but a bunch'a...
(suddenly interested)
Oh, what's this...?
SCHULTZ
You got something?
Two GIRLS walk by not far from him, both stumbling around.
SCHULTZ
Sherm? You copy?
BONNER
(sly grin)
Oh, I copy. I copy alright.
MASON
(filtered; through radio)
Keep your head in the game, you
perv bastard. We ain't here to play
peeping tom.
BONNER
Oh, it ain't Tom I'm peeping at.
SCHULTZ
Looks like we're just gonna have to
wait this one out, boys.
BONNER
I ain't exactly goin' nowhere.
Off his annoyed, uncomfortable expression:
EXT. INDY'S HOUSE - BACK YARD - NIGHT
The loud music inside roars through the windows as the party
continues strong. A few familiar faces, and a few unfamiliar
are scattered throughout the lawn.
Atop a wooden table Mary Jane sits as Peter emerges from
inside, scrubbing what remains of the vomit off of his shirt.
PETER
Hey, I was trying to get your
attention back there...
MARY JANE
I know. I was ignoring you.
Peter looks down, not sure how to respond. He scrubs at his
shirt a little more, but it's a lost cause at this point.
MARY JANE
Serves you right.
Peter looks at her with a frown, then sits down beside her.
Another of those familiar awkward beats before:
MARY JANE
I don't get you.
PETER
I'm not sure I get me either.
MARY JANE
Why does everything have to be so
complicated with you?
Peter looks down at the ground. He's not even gonna bother.
MARY JANE
Sometimes I think I'd be better off
just giving up on you. I really
don't know why I even try.
A long beat. Too long.
PETER
You know, I don't think I've ever
told you this, but ever since Uncle
Ben died, I've felt closer to you
than anyone. Even Aunt May...
(beat)
Even if I have a funny way of
showing it sometimes.
Mary Jane reacts, both with surprise and uncertainty.
MARY JANE
All I want is for you to be honest
with me. I never know what's going
on up there. You're here and it
feels like old times, or you're
nowhere to be found and standing me
up, and I...
PETER
I know. These last few months have
just been so crazy, I don't even
know where to start anymore...
Mary Jane places her hands over his.
MARY JANE
I know you've been through a lot
this year. I guess I forget that
sometimes.
PETER
That's no excuse. This thing's like
a big circle, and somehow I always
manage to screw it up in the end.
Mary Jane grins a little.
MARY JANE
Wouldn't say that.
(beat, sighs)
I guess I have been a little hard
on you. You're trying. I guess it
took me a while to figure that out.
(rolls eyes)
And maybe you didn't deserve to get
puked on.
Peter grins. Finally, some progress.
INDY (O.S.)
Oh my God! You came!
Peter frowns, Mary Jane as well. Indy rushes to them,
obviously buzzing, but not outright smashed.
She seems to realize that she's interrupting.
INDY
(cringes)
Sorry! Didn't mean to interrupt
your hallmark moment.
She takes a giant sip from her cup, then moves to walk past
them. She trips, sending her half-full cup into the air, and
inevitably all over Peter. Maybe she is smashed after all.
Mary Jane tries to hold back her laughter as we:
INT. INDY'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - LATER
The party is in full swing as "In Stereo" by Fort Minor
blares over the speakers.
Eddie sits on the couch, which has been moved to a corner.
Directly in front of him, Gwen stands with a red cup in her
hand, swaying to the music. It looks like she's a few
herself. Eddie looks on disapprovingly.
She grabs his hand, pulling him off the couch.
GWEN
(shouts over music)
Come on! Dance with me!
As Gwen begins dancing, Eddie looks extremely uncomfortable.
He reluctantly grabs onto her and she pulls him forward.
They reach the middle of the living room and Gwen quickly
spins around, giving Eddie her back. She starts dancing
seductively. The scene becomes increasingly awkward as others
begin to take notice of this.
Off Eddie's uncomfortable face:
INT. INDY'S HOUSE - KITCHEN
The kitchen is separated from the rest of the house by a pair
of wooden double doors. It seems to be off-limits to most of
the party-goers, but that doesn't stop Flash from entering.
FLASH
Ken?! Kenny?!
(under his breath)
Where the hell did he go?
(louder)
I know you've puked by now, bench
warmer! Give it up!
Suddenly a loud THUMP echoes from the direction of the PANTRY
DOOR, which leads to a smaller, closet-sized room where food
is stored. Flash looks on, shaking his head.
FLASH
You're raiding the pantry? Dude...
He slings the door open and his eyes widen.
FLASH
(awe)
Dude...
Inside the closet is Kenny, but he's not alone. He's in the
middle of a pretty serious make-out moment. With Indy.
They don't stop what they're doing. Indy casually shuts the
door leaving a baffled Flash standing in the kitchen.
EXT. RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD - TREE
Bonner remains amongst the tree branches. He continues to
survey the neighborhood, but soon drops his binoculars.
BONNER
(into radio)
I ain't seen a damn thing in two
hours. I'm coming down.
SCHULTZ
(filtered; through radio)
Stay put.
BONNER
We've lost 'em!
MASON
(also filtered)
Shut up, you whiny bastard. You
wanna get paid for this, right?
BONNER
You wanna haul your sorry ass up
here? Didn't think so.
SCHULTZ
Would you two quit bitching...
LUTHOR
(filtered as well)
We've got company!
EXT. RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD - STREET
Schultz looks around, noticing FLASHING LIGHTS down the
street, headed their way.
SCHULTZ
We've got cops! Let's move!
EXT. RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD - TREE - CONTINUOUS
Bonner reacts to the news, scrambling to get down. He swings
down, but loses his grip and hits the ground with a THUMP.
BONNER
Son of a bitch!
INT. INDY'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM
Mass chaos has now taken over the party as everyone scrambles
to try and flee the house. Police sirens blare outside.
Eddie and Gwen are caught in the commotion, moving to the
back. Gwen is laughing hysterically.
EDDIE
I don't see the humor in this...
(beat)
Let's go!
Gwen does so, still laughing. Eddie pushes through to the
back door and out into:
EXT. INDY'S HOUSE - BACK YARD
Peter and Mary Jane are still in deep conversation in the
distance. Eddie races toward them.
EDDIE
Pete! What are you doing?
Peter looks up, oblivious.
EDDIE
The sirens, bro! Let's get the hell
out of here!
Both Peter and Mary Jane finally hear the sirens as they grow
closer. A COP comes running into the back yard.
COP
Alright, this party is officially
over, folks!
Peter and the gang rush to climb the back of the wooden
fence. By now, other party-goers have joined them.
MARY JANE
We haven't had anything to drink!
Eddie motions toward Gwen, who is completely smashed.
EDDIE
You wanna try telling them that?!
Mary Jane and Peter are the first to climb over. Peter helps
her, then quickly jumps over, out of sight.
Eddie and Gwen, now at the fence themselves, do their best to
get over, but Gwen is a little too dizzy and stumbles back.
GWEN
(laughing)
This is hard!
Eddie drops, rushing back to her.
EDDIE
Come on! We have to go!
Gwen tries once more, holding on to the top of the fence as
Eddie pushes her upward from behind.
MARY JANE (O.S.)
Are you guys okay?
EDDIE
Not really! Pete, help me out!
Not a second later, Peter jumps back over. He looks back.
ANGLE ON THE HOUSE as it's almost empty. Another COP stands
just inside with Indy, who is sobbing into her hands. The cop
looks up, catching Peter staring.
BACK ON PETER as he turns back.
PETER
Eddie, jump! That way you can catch
her if she falls.
Eddie does so, as Gwen just stands there, mildly amused by
the entire situation.
PETER
(to Gwen)
You ready?
She smiles and Peter hold on to her tight with one arm. With
one quick motion, he pushes her upward and places his free
hand on the top of the fence, sticking to it and pushing both
of them even higher.
Gwen FLOPS over, landing on top of Eddie.
GWEN (O.S.)
Ouch!
EDDIE (O.S.)
Ouch?! You say ouch?!
Peter is almost over the fence...
PETER
You guys go ahead. I'll catch up.
Acknowledging him, the three run off down the sidewalk.
COP (O.S.)
Hold it.
Off Peter's reaction:
FADE OUT.
END OF ACT THREE
ACT FOUR
FADE IN:
EXT. QUEENS - SIDEWALK
Gwen, Mary Jane, and Eddie are catching their breaths, the
adrenaline from moments ago now fading away.
GWEN
Man, that was...
(beat)
Fun!
Eddie shoots her a look of irritation.
EDDIE
Fun?
MARY JANE
Guys, where's Peter?
All three spin around, hoping he's just catching up, but in
fact he's nowhere to be seen.
MARY JANE
Oh no.
(then)
We have to go back.
Mary Jane takes off in the direction of Indy's house, only to
be abruptly stopped by Eddie.
EDDIE
Wait! He probably just ran in a
different direction or something.
He was right behind us.
MARY JANE
You don't know that.
EDDIE
If we go back now, the cops will
grab us for sure. Pete didn't drink
anything did he?
MARY JANE
Neither one of us did, but...
(realizes)
Oh crap. His shirt is soaked in it,
though. And he... they'll never
believe he wasn't drinking.
EDDIE
They have tests for that, MJ.
MARY JANE
There's still his Aunt May.
Gwen, who's been keeping suspiciously silent, finally speaks.
GWEN
(woozy)
I don't feel so hot...
And before Eddie or Mary Jane can respond, she PUKES right at
their feet. Eddie lets out a disapointed sigh.
EDDIE
What a nightmare.
Off Mary Jane's concerned expression:
