Gwen Stacy's problems began the summer before starting at Midtown High when her mother suddenly up and left her and her father, which lead to her father eventually committing suicide. With no family left, Gwen was sent to live with a foster family in Queens. While they're a nice couple, with good intentions, they barely know Gwen - something they vow to work to correct.

Gwen is a fun-loving, carefree girl most of the time. Recent events have caused her to lose a bit of that, but it's still there. Gwen has a vulnerable side, and often feels like she's simply destined to be unhappy.

Upon starting at Midtown, Gwen finds a common bond with Peter, a good friend in Mary Jane, and an... admirer in Eddie. Though she is far from over the death of her father, she begins to discover that life does indeed go on, though at the same time, Gwen often fears what the future may bring.
