Welcome welcome welcome friends, to the first ever MZPtv Pitch Competition. We're trying something new here, so we'd love for you all to take part.
It's not too difficult, and
EVERYBODY is free to join.
Here's how it goes:
Lower down this post I will give you two different phrases, one of which you'll have to concoct a mini-pitch around. You then send me a
Personal Message with your mini-pitch in. After the deadline I will be posting all of the mini-pitches up and the community will vote on their favourite. The creator of each mini-pitch stays anonymous.
The
TOP 3 mini-pitches will then go to a final heat, where each user will have to develop a full pitch and compete against each other for the prize (again, voted for by the community).
Your mini pitch should be formatted like this (please include the bolded headings for clarity):
Title & Genre: e.g. "Santa's New Shoes" (comedy/romance)
Logline: The logline is a single sentence describing the series.
For examples, look at this year's Black ListSummary: One paragraph going into more detail about the series.
Cast: Fantasy casting for your leads, between 1 minimum and five maximum.
No graphics are needed.
The two phrases are:
A new spin on the vampire mythos
or
Death in the 22nd century
Neither phrase needs to appear in the mini-pitch, you just need to base your pitch vaguely around those ideas.
The genre of the pitch is entirely your choice.
The first round closes on:
January 22nd at 00:00 GMT(If we don't get enough entries the deadline may be extended)
The prize is a copy of
Screenwriting Tips, You Hack: 150 Practical Pointers for Becoming a Better Screenwriter in Paperback or Kindle format.
Remember, your entry should be sent to me via Personal Message.
Please add "Pitch Competition" in the message subject.
The boring bit...- The competition is open to anyone with over 10 posts on MZPtv. Spam don't count, newbies.
- You will need an Amazon account with the book added to your Wish List, should you win. I will purchase the book for you as a "gift". The buyer and recipient stay anonymous. I have run a competition like this before and it worked perfectly.
- Needless to say, any evidence of plagiarism will result in your immediate banning from MZPtv. I will be checking suspicious entries.
Any questions, feel free to ask below.
And GOOD LUCK!
Vaughn's sample pitch
Title & Genre: "The Trade" (action/dark comedy)
Logline: In a technologically advanced future two bored assassins trade personal hit-lists with each other, but find their new missions lead to all sorts of complications.
Summary: Joe Malone is a dishevelled asshat with a mean streak and a Wolverine complex. Milton Hark is a beloved family-man with his own business selling luxury cars. Also, both are hitmen. Bored and frustrated with the current state of hired killing they resolve to swap their own personal hit-lists -- their top 100 "people that should be dead because they're bastards" -- to spice up their professional lives. But both soon realise this game has meant they've bitten off more than they can chew.
Cast: Joe (Michael Chiklis), Milton (Walton Goggins).
