I don't personally see it that way, but I understand what you're saying. It's just like when you give feedback to the writer, it's not always good is it?? And not everyone gives their feedback to what they read. I was just thinking this would be a way for people to register that they read an episode (which episode) and give a rank 1-10 and leave comments if they wanted to. That's pretty much what I was thinking! The moving around forums, would be stupid now that I think of it.
There was a lengthy discussion on one of the MZPtv podcasts (I believe, might have dreamt it up) about the pitfalls of rating something using a number, which I fully agree with. It's harder to comprehend the quality of a script if I receive a '7' or '8' over being told what I'm doing right and wrong.
That was me, I think. I do remember stopping Adam from ending the podcast twice - and that was one of the reasons because I wanted to talk about it.
Back in the (far, far, far) day before my inevitable review burnout and vs-reviewing breakdown I swore by the number system, and at one point my RED BOLDED NUMBERS (aka the XandZ! Rating) were feared beyond belief. They were also one of the long term reasons that Pilot Season was created (via the Pitch Council)(*COUGHLARACROFTGENESISCOUGH*). But as Mike Jay said - you can't really see what differs between a '6' and a '7'.
In what I believed was fair back then, I often judged later episodes on what the pilot was like. So if I enjoyed a pilot with a high score, then a standard was met for that series. All subsequent ratings were based on that standard I expected from that series. The only problem is that differing members views clashed with them when perhaps an episode of a more popular series written by a skilled writer received a lower score from perhaps an episode written by a lesser experienced writer. What it did do, however, was highlight one key aspect of the whole subjectivity of reviewing anyway.
Mike's 'yay' 'nay' and 'meh' rating system is a lot more direct. I prefer it.
