Looking forward to this, Brian. I feel like you've done a very respectable job of marketing the project as a whole. There's something generally appealing about a project when you can see how much it's writer cares about it...I get that with this and you :)

Thanks, Kyle!!  I really appreciate that, it means a lot.  I've been working on this idea since late 2009, so it has been with me for a really long time, so I think that's why I am so passionate about it.

I think folks will be surprised by some of the turns this story takes as it goes along, even beyond just the first arc.

Can't wait to get people's thoughts on the entire first arc once it's aired! :D

Perhaps one shouldn't go out drinking and partying the night before one's series is set to premiere....

Cliffhangers are fun.  :D

Every single ep in Arc One beginning with this one has them, so I'm afraid your frustration will only continue!  In a good way, I hope.

The next two episodes I've read was rather awesome!! Spooky cliffhanger at the third episode. So far episode 3 of your arc one is awesome thanks to all the stuff you've written on it. I'll review the rest of the arc when I return from my Dad's either Friday or Saturday.

So! MZP's debut webseries is up and running. So far? Not bad.

It's become an unfortunate side effect of the 'infected' genre (as it will now have to be known) that there are almost too many tropes at play within it now. Blood Borne's first few parts suffer from having to run through the gamut of apocalypse tropes, from being separated from a loved one (Y: The Last Man), abandoned cities (28 Days Later, The Walking Dead), the scavenger hunt lifestyle (Zombieland, Land of the Dead) and even good ideas like
(click to show/hide)
have been used before (28 Weeks Later, Land of the Dead again), so really a series like this lives and dies on its characters, and any new spins or twists to established tropes they can throw in.

So far, Nick's a little bland, so it's teacher-turned-survivor Roger who's showing the most personality. Logan as the self-serving jackass who could ditch them at all any minute could be interesting, but after 40 pages we should be getting a bit more pizazz out of the gang by now. Hopefully they'll start to gel better now we have a proper team to work with - and reveals in the brands of Infected on offer could also open up into something fun.

The writing quality isn't in doubt - apart from a few wonky lines here and there, Brian's wonderfully visceral descriptions of the Infected and their attacks really sell this, creating a detailed, visual atmosphere throughout. Also, Brian has gotten the knack of the 10-page webisode format bang on from episode one, with plot movement and a nasty cliffhanger each and every instalment - there's always the fear webisodes could just turn into a 60-page script broken into 6 uneven segments, but no such problems here.

Sorry that I haven't properly posted ep 4 here on the board, I'm working a weird shift today so I didnt have time to post it up before going in - at least it's on the main site!  :D  Thanks for posting up a link, Vaughn.

Lee - thank you so much for providing some really great feedback!  I can't really piece apart what you said and respond properly right this moment, but I will once I get home.  All I can say is thank you so much for taking the time to read and respond!!  :D

No worries - in a nutshell, I think you had to get all the standard zombie movie stuff out of the way in the first few episodes so you could get the band together and start throwing some new stuff in there, so I reckon it'll keep on an upward swing now :)

Hello again!  I want say again how thankful I am that you took the time to read and review my lil series.  :D

I understand what you mean about the tropes of a post-apocalyptic zombie/infected story.  There are quite a few cliches and pitfalls that can go with that sort of storyline.  I know that the first few webisodes can seem similar to some of those other stories, as far as the setups and the setting and all of that.  I think that many will see that as we move into Arc 2 and beyond, this goes way beyond a simple virus/infection story.  There will be a lot more going on than just that, and also the characters will become much more fleshed out.

There are still 2 more characters that are going to be introduced in the next webisode that will end up playing an integral part in the upcoming arcs.  Each character will end up serving a purpose throughout their time on the seres (however long or short, depending on how long they live :D ).

I can understand how Nick might come across a little bland to you at first.  His motivations are pretty cut and dry as we start out, with his primary goal being about finding Janine, but as the series wears on, there will be other obstacles to overcome and other character interactions that should add many more layers to his character (I hope!!).

I think your fears about not much happening within the first 40 pages will be washed away once you read the final 2 installments of Arc One.  A lot gets packed into those final webisodes, and the sixth webisode is a bit of extended one, going to almost 15 pgs.

Overall, I can't say how grateful I am for the sterling comments about the writing and the descriptions of the infected.  They are the stars of the series just as much as the humans we are rooting for to survive!  I want them to be just as detailed and interesting as the humans.  And don't worry - there's stuff about Marcus that makes him different than anything else you've seen so far, but you'll just have to wait until later arcs to discover what that is!  :D
