I think ultimately, the issue with the Recruits is that they're simply not as much fun as Roy, Thea and Laurel were. The show has replaced three ace characters with three okay-ish ones, and as a result it's just not hitting the right buttons for us.

The show is better overall, though. (And Roy and Thea never really co-existed.)

"Roy, Thea and Laurel" I think that's the key. For better or worse, we knew these characters for a long time before they had a costume and a codename. And they grew into full fledged members of the team (arguably) organically. The new team was just sorta thrown into the fray making them feel like bodies in costumes. I honestly couldn't even tell you Wild Dog, Ragman or Artemis real name off the top of my head. Curtis is the only one who was well established but they set him up to be boy-Felicity not a costumed fighter so it doesn't feel like it fits.

Anything is an improvement over last season :)

I think we're definitely in a transition year - hopefully by the end of S5 we'll all collectively feel better about this and have a good springboard into S6.

I dunno - S5 has been the best it's been since S2. I've not had much to complain about.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it a lot more at the moment. Just feels like it hasn't all quite clicked into place yet, if that makes sense?

The CW renewed all four DC Comics shows! (Plus Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, and Supernatural, the show that's probably gonna beat Gunsmoke's record at this point.)

I like that they do their renewals so early, giving the creators plenty of time to start planning ahead.

They've also announced a Constantine animated series on the CW Seed starring Matt Ryan.  People seem to be pretty excited about it but I'm assuming it'll just be a single episode chopped up into mini webisodes like Vixen was. I hope I'm wrong though.

A more legit animated series would be great, hard to get much of anything out of those 5 minute webisodes. Regardless, it's cool that Matt Ryan's portrayal has become so definitive.

You know, I think Felicity is actually worse than the actual super villains on this show.  :zombie:

Yeah, she was worse than normal this week. She really did feel like more of an antagonist than Laurel. I don't know if it was the writing or the acting but it felt more like Felicity was jealous of Not-Laurel than anything else. She never really gave a good reason why Oliver couldn't at least just talk to Laurel and never proposed an alternative.

I get that some of her decisions are based on the fact that her boyfriend just died (they hadn't even buried him yet apparently) but that dude made so little impact in the show I don't even remember what he looked like. Even the episode sort of treated him like an afterthought.

I never thought I'd say this, but Wild Dog was the best part of the episode this week.

Here's a huge what if...
What If Felicity gets killed by Prometheus (rather brutally) and Oliver goes so dark that he becomes the next Deathstroke?

Anyone?

Bad idea?

Honesly, you hit the nail on the head.

Compare her whining when she found out Oliver had a son to her bitching about Black Siren.

Straight up psycho.

On the flipside of the argument - Felicity was in the right throughout this episode. She was right to be wary of "Laurel" and there was the necessary counterpoint to Oliver's argument that needed to be made. Especially since not two episodes ago they were dealing with the consequences and rules of time travel that Felicity would be able to comprehend (plus I think she'd be updated on what Team Flash were up to on a regular basis). I'd even make the argument that this is the best that the Felicity/Oliver dynamic has been since season two. Particularly because it was about something else other than the relationship between the two of them.

At the moment I'm enjoying the writing team exploring how to handle the two of them without bring romance back into it; because I'm impressed they've had Felicity manage to see that her non-descript boyfriend's death wasn't directly the protagonist's fault. A lesson Cisco spent most of this season not learning to the detriment of his character.

She was right to be wary but she was so over aggressive about it.  Oliver had a conversation with a locked up Laurel and wanted to believe that just maybe there was some chance that she could be turned good and Felicity reacted as if he was already planning to invite Laurel to the team right there on the spot. He was just looking for a potential bright spot in a bad situation.

I get that she was supposed to be the "voice of reason" but since nobody else was being all that unreasonable it just came off as sort of unwarranted.

It doesn't help that she gave The Team orders counter to what Oliver gave them while they were in the field. Team Arrow feeling more like Team Felicity is something that's bugged me all season.

I like the idea of them switching roles, though. Oliver the optimist and Felicity the pessimist has great potential, I just don't think there was enough there this week to justify such a strong reaction. The lack of Thea made me a little grumpy too.

It's a bit convenient but I'm okay with it. I'm really liking all the Taliah stuff.  I really didn't expect her to tie so deep into The Vigilante's origin.

I thought the whole thing where nobody was good for Oliver enough no matter how skilled/heroic they were but when Curtis suggests a woman who might not even exist Olly's sold pretty quick because she has the power that Laurel had to fake. Well, Earth-1 Laurel had to fake it. Coincidentally it's the exact power Earth-2 Laurel actually had. Because why not. Arrow's going to end up having as many characters with canary cries as Flash has speedsters.

Damn, I hadn't even suspected Talia but now it suddenly seems so obvious. My theory now is that Talia is Prometheus and Susan is behind Felicity's hacker group. Or other way around. Or something else entirely. #allbasescovered

So... that "very special episode" on gun control. It honestly wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It got a bit preachy at times but it got equally preachy for all sides of the argument.  Wild Dog is now my favorite character which means he probly won't make it out of the season. My theory is that him and Thea are gonna get a bit closer before he gets his kid back and decides he can't be a Dad and live the life he's living and moves out of Star City.

The ending was a bit "convenient", though. A magical bill that makes everyone happy with no explanation as to how it works? Nah, I can't buy into that.  Hopefully it's meant to be an unresolved thing that will carry over into the rest of the season. I kinda think it will with the whole "Vigilante" thing still up in the air.
