It'll probably just be another zombie apocalypse movie because....we get enough of those.

I'm guessing it takes place at the same time as Cloverfield. I've got a feeling people who were pissed we hardly saw the monster in the first one are gonna hate this one. So much going on in that trailer, though. I'm actually pretty excited about this.
It has John Goodman, one of my all time favorite actors. So that's a plus for me

Well I'm once again convinced that the Academy Awards is not to be taken seriously. Creed, Straight Outta Compton, and even The Force Awakens didn't even get an oscar nom for best picture. The awards are a complete joke.

Talk about sneaking up on you.  :moe:

Here's the official synopsis from back when it was using it's codename "Valencia":

Quote
The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar, and revolves around a young woman who wakes up in the cellar after a severe car accident and fears she has been abducted. Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.

Also, I had completely forgotten that the world of Cloverfield actually has a pretty rich mythology to it thanks to some really deep viral marketing they produced before the original came out. The type of stuff that leaves them open to do all sorts of movies within this universe.

The exciting part though is that this is only a couple months away.

Well, The Force Awakens is my favourite movie of 2015, so I don't need the Academy's help in deciding this year.

I've also never seen Cloverfield, so maybe I should check it out... 10 Cloverfield Lane seems like it could be pretty decent.

The Academy Awards are a political and commercial tool, nothing more. The films that campaign for them are the ones that get nominated. Oftentimes voters haven't even SEEN the films, they just vote for their friends' movies, or the ones that seem "right" to vote for. I remember seeing "Slum Dog Millionaire" (remember when that won Best Picture?) and going "ok...that was fun..."

Forgot it the moment I left the theater.

Eventhough my favorite movie of 2015 got nominated I still say the oscars are a joke

And it seems they shot themselves in the foot as they're getting flack for their "lack of diversity" in their choices.

Thanks for mentioning that movie, never heard about it and seen some rave reviews of online users. I will see it with my friend who's into the sort of serious war movies. Wonder if I'll be disapointed too :D Hope not.
What about it you didn't like it?

It wasn't a bad movie just I didn't felt that it was worth the Best Picture win. Then again I'm not exactly into war movies so its more personal taste in that regard

Black Conservative Larry Elder chimed in about the Oscar boycott kerfuffle the other day, and said simply "black CONSUMERS are happy". And I think he's got a great point--the Black dollar has proven to be consistently strong at the US Box Office. Someone else mentioned it before, if you loved Star Wars, or Creed, or whatever, you're not really going to give a sh*t what the stuffy old Academy says.

Has anyone seen this, btw? She pretty much sums up how I feel about this mess:

Me and my Niece have been watching "The Good Dinosaur" trailer pretty much every day for the better part of her life (she's very young). Today the Blu-Ray showed up and we finally got to watch the actual movie together. She fell asleep in my arms about ten minutes in. So, with only ten minutes of viewing "The Good Dinosaur" is officially my favorite movie experience.

This has got to be the most heartwarming story I've ever read

That's so adorable!
You've reminded me that I have to see the movie. Hope that I'll like it (and won't fall asleep, haha).
Doubt that it will top Inside Out, but I'm really excited about seeing a Pixar movie about a dinosaur.
Neither the Disney one nor the Land Before Time series do anything for me :(
(I feel guilty about only enjoying Don Bluth's Anastasia...)

Finally saw 10 Cloverfield Lane yesterday and it's pretty damn good. It's definately one of those movies you want to go into with as little knowledge of as possible. As little as the trailer gives away I still kinda wish I hadn't seen it. Apparently a lot of people were upset by the "twist" ending but I think it worked almost perfectly. I highly recommend giving it a watch.

I'd say part of the reason is because people were expecting a Cloverfield sequel from the film. Personally I'm not too upset with the twist ending either as it fits the tone that the movie was developing.

It's actually kind of the opposite. I'll put my reasoning in spoiler tags for those who haven't seen it yet.

And the cast will be 90% African-American.

I watched the Cloverfield Paradox last night (fitting, as the last posts in this thread were about 10 Cloverfield Lane). Pretty sure that I saw that Tony absolutely hated in on Facebook, and I wasn't overly impressed aside from the fact that I really dig alternate dimension stuff. Seemed like it was too interested in being a quasi-horror film instead of really exploring the cool little world that it inhabited.

I'm curious about all of the Cloverfield stuff now, though, as I was reading all sorts of crazy shit on reddit. I never watched Cloverfield, as I absolutely loathe found-footage flicks, but I dig the general anthology sort of storytelling that they're doing around the edges of the crazy shit that's going down. A lot of the negative reaction that I saw on reddit centered around the fact that this film wasn't really needed to tie them all together by introducing the fact that this event could have affected past, present and future.

I'm curious to see Tony's thoughts on the issue as a whole.

The most fascinating part of the whole franchise is that films 2 and 3 weren't even Cloverfield films. JJ just found the scripts lurking around the system and bought them and tasked the writers to retrofit them into the Cloverfield mythology.  Not often you hear of something like that happening.

I enjoyed Paradox anyway. The characters were a bit crap (apart from O'Dowd), the story was nonsensical, but I loved it when crazy shit hit the fan. I always like a bonkers plot, even if it is silly.

I, too, still need to watch that. I'm a sucker for action films of that ilk. If there's a lot of good killing in those woods and a semblance of a plot, I'm pretty happy.
