I'd like to see the one sentence needed for FFXIII.

Lightning runs from point A to point B and kills stuff.

Also l'Cie fal'Cie crystals something something Darkside.
I giggled so hard. Sadly, old Final Fantasy games is where quality is at. They've really lost their touch!

I've always had a little bit of an issue about how Squall suddenly becomes the head of SeeD. It's like Kirk becoming captain very quickly in the Abrams movie. It seems all very sudden. Where are all these other SeeD members? They can't be the youngest....
Maybe after the Gardens fight each other there aren't many cadets left of a decent enough skill level, so Squall gets put in charge because a) he has the most field experience at that point and b) there isn't a lot of choice anyway? Or maybe it gets offered to Quistis and she turns it down in favour of Squall?

I think Squall's probably the second/third year of students they might've had. And, correct me if I'm wrong (and I know you will), wasn't it stated at some part of the game or associated materials that Quistis advanced ahead a year or two?

Then again, I do wonder what the student intake is at Garden. Or even what the application process/admission criteria is. Balamb seems to not have that wide a catchment area than say, Galbadia or Trabia.

It's a bit of a fudge - the writing team made Quistis a teacher when she was only meant to be a slightly older student - the story given is that she advanced early because she was so good, but I think if you make her early 20s and strip out her feelings for Squall (maybe a low-level crush at best), it all links up much better. She can still be the youngest teacher but doesn't have to be just a year or so older.

There's a lot of backstory as to how the Gardens work that's only briefly touched on in the Cid/Edea flashbacks, so again you have a lot of room to explore that.

Don't get me thinking about my serialised adaptation of FFVIII again...

"THAT PATHETIC MARRIED COUPLE'S???" - Is my second favourite piece of bad exposition ever written.

Too late. I've been wondering how to do it ala Game of Thrones style all day.

It works as episodic content pretty well, really, because if you cut out all the grinding, or that stupid card game, you can move the plot along at a great pace and still include lots of fun stuff.

I never liked it too :) I guess it could be fun if someone enjoys playing cards, though.
The only one card game that I've ever enjoyed is the Pokemon one.

The card game broke the balance of the game if you knew what you were doing. I remember one- or two-shotting Seifer with a normal attack from Squall every time I met him because I'd crafted end game magic from rare cards and assigned it to the Strength stat.

Huh, that's an interesting alternative option to grinding. I was always to lazy for such mini games in Final Fantasies, though. I didn't even like the FFVII ones.

Triple Triad was awesome. Addictive, and I loved the music.

Until the random rule. fork you, Queen of Cards.

DUDE Triad was RIDICULOUS. All it took was a quick trip to GameFaqs to figure out how to abuse the system. I remember having pretty crazy stats and items before even finishing the first disc.

I've never played a Final Fantasy game before but this one looks pretty damn good. Might have to pick it up when the price drops.

I was about to post that I've thinking of how I'd do a GOT style FFVIII game...then I find that past-me has already done it!
