Deaths...

So did I, which is why I wanted to off him :-P  I'm a big believer in hurting the fictional characters I care about.  (Though in hindsight, I could've done that much, much better.  Cheesy much?)

Cheesy? Maybe... However, the points that lead up to him getting put 'out of the way' looked like he'd been tuned into a chump. He got punked far too often if you ask me. =/

A little heads up, folks - since I just purchased all five seasons of Angel, I've decided to give this the review treatment once I'm done watching them.

Be a few months yet, I imagine, but I'm excited at finally being in a position to read at least SOME of the MZP Jossverse down the line.

A good choice. I think you'll get a kick out of Angel.

Luke’s Review of ‘Wanted’

After finishing Buffy season 8 I’m looking forward to mixing it up and reading some of the other Jossverse series again.  Do you have any advice about any crossovers that occur in Angel and Buffy so I can read those episodes at the right times?

I love that we pick off during the battle behind the Hyperion.  I think it needed to be shown.  If the series started any other way I think I would have felt cheated.  I’m also glad that the battle lasted longer than the teaser.  I mean we are dealing with Wolfram and Hart’s failsafe army.  It’s bound to be huge and not end so quickly.  I think Gunn’s death was handled well too.  I didn’t like his character so am happy that you killed him and didn’t have him miraculously survive.  Even though I didn’t like him I’m happy that his death was onscreen and you didn’t have the gang find his body somewhere.  It served a necessary plot in showing the developing feelings inside of Illyria.

I feel like not enough attention is given to Angel here which is a bit of a downfall considering he’s the titular character.  Spike and Illyria get a lot of screen time which isn’t necessarily bad, I just believe that when we only have three of our regular characters that we already know we should have either an even focus or more on the titular character.

I liked the ending and it’s great seeing LA such a wasteland.  No matter where our gang tries to hide there will be demons there.  Taylor and Sonia have a decent enough intro and we are left with a teaser ending with Kitridge having Nina kidnapped to further toy with Angel.  I’m looking forward to reading more.  I preferred season seven to six last time I read it but maybe this will change.

Goodbye to one of the most amazing shows ever created.

Well, S8 of Buffy technically follows Angel S5, so you won't see any crossovers until the end of both S6 of this and S9 of Buffy (I think it's the episodes '... And Another Thing' on Angel, I forget which Buffy it is).

Forgot to post this last week.  Oops.

Luke’s Review of ‘Lights Out’

Even with all the crazy shizz that is going down the cops still don’t know the half of it and are using rubber bullets thinking that what they are up against is nothing more than human.  This is only gonna end badly.

Again it feels like we are spending more time with Spike and Illyria than we are with Angel which is rather frustrating.  Don’t get me wrong I love Illyria but Spike irritates me.  He has done since the end of Buffy season 6 really.  Oh well, I’m not gonna mention it again as this isn’t a currently airing series so any feedback isn’t going to be used to develop future episodes.

I like the fact that the first three episodes of Angel season six can be read as a three part episode Even though all have a distinct beginning, middle and end they can be read as one huge episode.  I liked the ending to this episode with Angel going off to rescue Nina and Kitridge holding his plan back from Manners.  The only criticism I have is that Angel only appears in a handful of scenes again.

Goodbye to one of the most amazing shows ever created.

I like that you used the word titular. Twice. Very underused word, that.

It's a good thing that you've decided to never again mention too much screen-time for others instead of Angel -- with especial regard to Spike -- as we were reamed for it a lot during season six, and it saves us the bother of reliving it. :D

But I like the fact that we were able to divide the time up a lot, especially in the beginning when it would have been easy to send Angel off on some huge mission that might have eventually felt a bit contrived instead of a somewhat organic conclusion that Lee worked out... or as organic as these things can be, anyhow.

I still can't believe we overlooked that. Moments like that, it's good that we're not actually on television, isn't it?

Yes, but in the world of television we would have a staff room full of people paid to spot things like that for us. One day, we shall have minions of our own!

Hi, new to the board and since im a fan of the Jossverse, and in particular Angel especially as felt it was better than Buffy having had the chance to have that much darker edge to the show and go places Buffy couldn't.

I just downloaded the first episode of season 6 and read as wasn't happy when the series ended on tv and thought so much more could have been done with the show down the line.

First, think a great first episode to the season.  I thought you pin-pointed perfectly the way Spike talks and his quirky phrases, and he in particular is a great character to write for I think.  I loved the interaction between Spike and Illyria also, and could sense the bond between the two that you saw in the final season when Fred died and became Illyria.

I'm interested to where this is going to go, with Nina returning.  Shame about Wesley as thought a lot could do with his character also, but Gunn was never a huge fan of really so not missing him as much lol.  The new group (Taylor/Sonia) seem interesting, although early thoughts feels maybe a little like Gunn's old group he used to run with, time will tell.

Nice to see Holland Manners return, and although I haven't read anything about future ones yet, I'm in hope of seeing some others like Lila, Lindsay, Kate (who i think was so underused), and maybe even an appearance by Darla.  Fingers crossed.

I'm going to dl some more episodes and have a read over time, and let you know what I think, but just wanted to pop in and say thanks for resurrecting the show, even though I know is for 2 seasons I believe.  Im looking forward to reading more and see what you have done to develop the show more and let you know what I think.

May seem a little silly also, but I always thought a series for Spike on his own would be perfect to watch, and it got talked about for years in reality but nothing ever came of it sadly.

Ok, just read episodes 2 and 3 of season 6.  Have to say great story so far, and certainly, for me anyway, feels like a real continuation series you would watch on tv.

Early reads, I can see Sonia and Connor becoming an item in some way down the line.  Nice to see Nina feature a lot also, thought they let that slip away in the series originally and she should have featured more with Angel.

Loved the line in start of episode 3 when Angel goes to rescue Nina at W&H:
Angel:  I've come to make a withdrawl!

Feels like a typical Angel quote that you would hear on the show.

Also, the quote from Angel towards Gurg regarding 'Fire doesnt agree with me'.  It actually got me thinking which I never realized before until this moment reading that.  Spike smokes and yet fire could harm vampires, lol.  Wonder if the writers ever thought of that when creating Spike.

Looking forward to reading the next few episodes, probably tomorrow now.  So far, good story to kick off the season, and dialogue for me is perfect in how each character speaks and reacts to the situations taken straight from the series itself of how they talk on the actual show.

Luke’s Review of ‘Adjustment’

You have Angel throw his axe at the doctor but then he uses it to break into the room Nina is locked in.  I doubt he would have had time to double back to retrieve the axe.   :D

I was convinced that this episode was the one that Angel accepted defeat.  It’s been a while though since I last read the season.  I enjoyed this episode, more scenes with Angel and more awkward moments between Connor and Sonia.  One thing I hated, the eyeball.  I hate anything to do with eyes!

Hi! Just presented me in "Welcome" section and now I wanted to comment on the serie that brought me to this place!

I am really loving this virtual continuation (although I'm only in episode 6) and my favorite episode so far is "Enter the Dragon". The all story with the dragon and how it ties with the previous episodes and its concluison is majestically made! I also really love the Spike and Illyria interactions. One thing that buggs me is that I find Angel struggling to get screen time on his own series xD. The dialogue is sometimes a little awkward and the scene where Skye fights the three vampires in the gas station was a little weird. I was expecting the gas station to explode at some point xD.

Now, back to continue reading Waylon Wyche's first episode.
